The soundtrack of the Walt Disney animated musical film Encanto reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart (as of Jan. 15), as the set jumped from 7 to 1 in their sixth week on the list. It is the first soundtrack to reach number 1 in more than two years – since that of Disney Frozen II stuck at the top of the list for a week, on the chart dated December 14, 2019.
Encanto gained 72,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending Jan. 6 (up 76%), according to MRC Data. The ensemble’s song streaming activity drove the majority of this unit sum.
The Billboard 200 rankings ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States based on multimeter consumption measured in equivalent album units. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported official audio and video streams or 1,250 paid / subscription-on-demand generated by songs from a album. Sixth animated soundtrack to reach number 1: Encanto is only the sixth animated film soundtrack to reach No. 1 since the Billboard 200 began releasing regularly on a weekly basis in 1956. Encanto follows Frozen II (one week at n Â° 1, 2019), Frozen (13 weeks, 2014), Jack Johnson’s Curious georges (a, 2006), Pocahontas (a, 1995) and The Lion King (10, 1994-95). Over two years between the # 1 original tapes: It’s been two years and a month since a soundtrack was No.1 on the Billboard 200 (since Frozen II conducted for a week on the graph of December 14, 2019). This is the longest run on the chart without an original soundtrack at No.1 since the gap of two years and six months between Bad boys II‘s fourth and final week at No.1 (23 Aug 2003) and Johnson’s Curious georges the soundtrack is one week older (February 25, 2006).

Encanto debuted at No.197 on the Dec.11, 2021 chart, then moved 162-179-110-7-1. Most albums that reach # 1 on the chart do so by debuting at # 1. The latest album at ascend at n Â° 1, before Encanto, was Kid LAROI’s Fucking love, on the August 7, 2021 chart. It hit number 1 in its 53rd week – after several deluxe reissues that added additional songs. (Fucking love debuted at # 8 on the chart dated August 8, 2020.)
Reflecting a trend for soundtracks, which may develop alongside the buzz for their parent films, Encanto is the first album to come out of the top 10 to become # 1 since Frozen II lost to No.15 in the November 30, 2019 leaderboard and reached No.1 in its third week (December 14, 2019). The last album to debut outside of the top 40 and go to No.1 was the soundtrack of The greatest showman, which launched at No.71 on the December 30, 2017 leaderboard, and reached No.1 in its fourth week (January 13, 2018).
Surprisingly, like Encanto debuted at # 197, this is only the third album to debut between # 197 and 200 to reach # 1. Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin II debuted at No. 199 on November 8, 1969 and reached No. 1 in its eighth week (December 27, 1969). Before that, the Monkees’ Headquarter bowed to # 197 on June 10, 1967 and reached # 1 in its third week (June 24, 1967).
Adele tops the charts 30 The album drops to No.2 after spending its first six weeks on the Billboard 200 at No.1. It earned 57,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 6 (down 43% ).
Former Morgan Wallen No.1 Dangerous: the double album celebrates a full year on the chart, rising 5-3 to 42,000 (down 4%) in its 52nd week on the chart. He debuted at No.1 on the roster dated January 23, 2021 and spent 10 weeks atop the tally. It recently closed 2021 as MRC Data’s Most Popular Album of the Year.
Many albums at this time of year, such as Dangerous, increase your position in the Billboard 200 despite declines in activity (or very small gains), as the chart readjusts to normal in subsequent weeks when the chart is filled with old Christmas albums. On the new chart, there isn’t a single Christmas album on the tally – whereas the week before there were 37 on the tally, including five in the top 10.
Dangerous: the double album has now racked up 51 non-consecutive weeks in the Billboard 200 top 10 – the most of any country album by a male artist. It exceeds the 50 weeks that Garth Brooks Ropin the wind collected in 1991-92. Among all the country decors, that of Taylor Swift Intrepid has the most weeks in the top 10, with 58, followed by Shania Twain come here (53), then Dangerous.
Among all genres, Dangerous is only the seventh album released since 2000 to spend 50 weeks in the top 10. Of all the albums released since January 2000, only Adele’s 21 (84 weeks), Swift 1989 (59), Swift Intrepid (58), Ed Sheeran ?? (To divide) (53), Lady Gaga Fame (51), Dangerous and Post Malone’s Hollywood bleeding (50) logged at least 50 weeks in the top 10.
A trio of # 1 alumni are next on the Billboard 200, like Olivia Rodrigo Sour is a no-move at # 4 (41,000 equivalent album units earned; down 10%), Swift’s Red (Taylor version) drop from 3 to 5 (38,000; down 19%) and Drake Boy in love certified increases from 11 to 6 (37,000; up 2%).
Doja Cat’s Planet her goes from 15 to 7 with 34,000 equivalent album units (up 5%).
The Weeknd’s Hits Compilation The strong points rises from 13 to 8 with 34,000 units (up less than 1%). The Weeknd is set to make a smashing debut on the Billboard 200 on January 22 with their new surprise studio album, Dawn FM, which was released without warning on January 7. The set was released via streaming services and as a digital download album for purchase. Its CD edition is slated for release on January 28, while its cassette and vinyl LP editions are slated for release on April 29. Yes Dawn FM tilts at No.1, that would mark The Weeknd’s fifth effort to top the charts and eighth top 10 overall. (All of his entries in the charts debuted in the top four on the list.)
